Summer is officially here! Well, not officially, but Memorial Day does generally serve as our summer season kick-off here at Deep Creek Lake. The weather has been very warm for this time of year, making it perfect for jumping in the still slightly chilly lake water. June weather is typically more humid, with passing showers and lots of sunshine. There are a lot of fun annual events in June! Below are some of our favorite things to do this month to help you get started!
Garrett County Celtic Festival - Head down to Friendsville June 1 for the annual Garrett County Celtic Festival! The event runs 10:30 am – 6 pm rain or shine! Enjoy live music, highland athletic games, sheepherding demonstrations, dancing, and lots of kids’ activities. The festival is celebrating their 34th Anniversary this year. With 5 stages and 3 fields full of things to do, it’s a fantastic way to spend an afternoon!
Grantsville Days - The small town of Grantsville hosts their annual celebration every June! This year, Grantsville Days welcomes The Clarks as guest performers! Enjoy a parade, BBQ, music, crafts, vendors, food, a tractor pull, and so much more. This year promises to be the best one yet! Follow the Grantsville Lions Club on Facebook to see the full schedule of events and special announcements.
Browse a Farmer's Market - Garrett County and Deep Creek Lake are home to talented artisans, farmers, and craftsmen! Browse the best selection of locally grown produce, artisan crafts, and other locally made goods. NEW this summer is the Deep Creek Farmer's Market, happening every Friday at Garrett College from 3-7 PM through Labor Day Weekend. Downtown Oakland also hosts an outdoor Farmer's Market in the town parking lot on Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the summer and into early fall. Shop local and support our wonderful farming community!
JUMP IN – The water is getting warmer every day! You’ve waited all year to jump in the lake – and June is the perfect time to get your feet wet, literally. The humid air and ample sunshine make the water a little extra refreshing. Lake traffic is also a little lower during June than in July and August, so it’s a good time to hit the water on a kayak or paddleboard. Reserve your paddleboard or kayak at High Mountain Sports and have them delivered right to your home or vacation rental or home!
These are just some of our favorite things to do - you can browse dozens of county-wide events on the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce Events Calender. The summer season is in full swing, so go get that ice cream at your favorite stand, catch some rays on the water, enjoy your dinner on a deck – do it all! We only get a few months of this beautiful season, you can believe we’re spending every second we can soaking it up!
