Top Things to Do in September at Deep Creek Lake

Judging by the weather this past week, it seems like we still have a few weeks of summer left! September is a fun month because it’s usually still warm enough to enjoy the lake and outside activities but the first signs of fall start taking hold. This month is also packed with fun annual events! Check out some of our favorite things to do this month at Deep Creek Lake and around Garrett County below!

Deep Creek Lake Art & Wine Festival – The annual Deep Creek Lake Art & Wine Festival is September 9! Head over to the fairgrounds to enjoy a day of wine tasting, live music, fun events, and shopping! Your ticket gets you access to the festival and a commemorative wine glass. This awesome event benefits HART for Animals and the Garrett Lake Arts Festival. You can kick off the weekend Friday night at the VIP tasting at the Fairgrounds, or enjoying a dinner at a local restaurant with special pairings.

Get in the Fall Spirit - September marks the beginning of the fall season! Get in the spirit of the most colorful season by enjoying some of the many outdoor fall activities! The Cove Run Corn Maze historically opens in mid-September, and proceeds each year help to benefit a non-profit organization. In the pumpkin picking spirit? Head down to Klotz Corn Shack to shop all fall produce, including pumpkin patches! Another awesome fall activity is visiting Yorkie Acres Farm. Pet adorable farm animals and enjoy other kids and outdoor activities. You can also check out Alpaca Acres Fall Fun events throughout the fall months.

Enjoy Fresh Fall Produce – Garrett County is home to so many wonderful farms! We’re lucky enough to have access to so much of this local grown goodness at several different markets in the area. Check out the Mountain Fresh Farmers Market every Wednesday and Saturday or stop by local stands set up throughout the area! Several grocery stores around the area also sell local grown produce. You can also visit many local farms and pick your own produce. Klotz Farm offers corn and pumpkins - perfect for fall!

As always, take advantage of the beautiful warm weather while it’s here!! The water in the lake is still fairly warm but will begin cooling off as the overnight temperatures dip lower. Many seasonal businesses will close in October, so it’s your last chance to enjoy your favorite ice cream stand or other seasonal shop!
