About

The cool, sapphire blue water, the sunshine that seeps into your soul; Deep Creek Lake, MarylandDeep Creek Lake is truly more of an experience than a destination. Here you’ll find unmatched splendor and beauty, nestled in the quiet mountains of Western Maryland.

Built in 1925, Deep Creek Lake has been a beloved place to both live and play.

Deep Creek Lake is the largest fresh water lake in Maryland, covering 3,900 ac with 65+ miles of shoreline. A hydroelectric dam controls the lake, and during the off-season, water is drained from the lake to supply several tributaries used for top class white water rapids. The lake and the buffer strip surrounding the water are owned by the State of Maryland and are protected by several environmental laws. These restrictions help protect the beauty of Deep Creek Lake while keeping it a safe place to play and swim.

Deep Creek Lake life is always exciting, especially during the summer months. Enjoy the rush of zipping through the water on a wakeboard or slow down and float through the afternoon; it’s up to you! With several marinas to choose from, boats of all makes and styles can be rented, as well as personal watercrafts. The lake has several no wake coves, offering smoother water for stand-up paddle boarders, kayakers, and swimmers! The southern end of the lake is famous for its sailing clubs, with races happening all summer long. Deep Creek Lake State Park offers a sandy beach and shallow swim area in a quiet cove, perfect for a relaxing afternoon. Fishing at Deep Creek LakeDuring the winter months, the lake freezes solid, offering an entirely different platform for winter fun. Ice-fishers set up tents all over the lake, biding their time for that perfect catch. The frozen lake is also suitable for snowmobiles! Braving the cold or soaking up the sun, there’s definitely a season for both.

For anglers and fishing enthusiasts, Deep Creek Lake offers peaceful waters and almost year round fishing. The lake is stocked with pike, trout, carp, and more, making it prime for open water and ice fishing! A fishing license is required, and they can be picked up at a few select places around the lake.

Whether you’re coming to stay or play, Deep Creek Lake offers endless beauty and recreation, no matter the season!
