One of the best events of holiday season has come and gone, and we couldn’t have asked for a better weekend! The Festival of Trees is a combination of designer trees and vendors, with everything up for grabs. The perfect place to get gifts for anyone on your list (including yourself!), it’s definitely something you don’t want to miss.
The mornings kick off with Breakfast with Santa, offering kids and their family the opportunity to not only enjoy a great breakfast, but also get to see Santa! Other kids’ activities include a cookie decorating station, a kids-only shop where everything is $1, elf-inspired hair station, and face painting! Meander in between the rows of decorated trees, ranging from live trees, pre-lit artificial trees, wreaths, table-tops trees, and everything in between. All of these trees are decorated and donated by local businesses and individuals, and are auctioned off Saturday evening at the close of the two-day event. Vendors are also set up throughout the hall, offering up mostly handmade goods and products! Everything from beautiful formed wood products to local made soaps, it’s all here and it’s all unique.
The proceeds from the admission tickets and the auctions help support The Dove Center. The Dove Center is a local shelter for women and children who have been victims of domestic violence or sexual assault, and helps provide safe housing and support. The Dove Center has been operating in Garrett County for 25 years and has impacted countless lives.
This year, Railey Realty & Deep Creek Lodging Company teamed up to design and donate a tree. One of the more enjoyable projects, it was a fantastic experience to bring our tree to life and to see it lighting up the halls at the festival. Our tree ended up with a 2nd place finish for the festival, and brought $650 in a close bid at the auction! Some truly incredible pieces were auctioned off. A custom made, oversized snow globe, made from hand blown glass at our local Simon Pearce factory, sold for a whopping $2,700. While not all the pieces pulled quite that much money, each and every auctioned off item is raising money for a very important cause. Plus, what a fun event!
We sincerely hope the buyers of our beautiful tree enjoy it this year, and you can guarantee you’ll see us there again next year! ‘Tis the Season!
