Jumping in the frigid waters of Deep Creek Lake in February is a very bad idea, that is, unless it’s for the Deep Creek Dunk. Each February, the Maryland State Police and Natural Resources Police come together to host the Deep Creek Dunk. Brave souls rush into the icy waters and then come rushing right back out, all for a very special cause.
The Deep Creek Dunk helps to sponsor the Maryland Special Olympics, a state-wide program that helps physically and mentally disabled athletes pursue their athletic dreams and goals. In the past 18 years, the Deep Creek Dunk has raised more than $2M for the Maryland Special Olympics. This milestone is just a testament to the Deep Creek Lake community and the continued support for this awesome event. The Deep Creek Dunk is actually the second leg of a two-event series. The first leg is the Polar Bear Plunge, held each year in January on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay!
Ready to jump in yet? Dunkers come in all shapes and sizes, and tend to dress in every way imaginable, from full costumes to swimsuits, you’ll never be bored with the fashion. If running full speed into 25 degree water isn’t on your bucket list, it’s a really great event to attend and support. Held in the yard behind Uno Chicago Grill and The Honi Honi Bar, it's usually a packed house, with live music, drink and food specials, and guaranteed fun. Grab a drink, grab some food, and cheer on all those out there ‘freezin’ for a reason.’
This year, Railey Realty agents and staff members are jumping in the waters with members of Deep Creek Lodging Company! If you’d like to donate to our team, or join our team to dunk with us, click here.
