It’s National Volunteer Week! Founded in 1974 by President Richard Nixon, National Volunteer Week occurs each year in April and encourages everyone to get out and help support their communities. This year, Railey Realty and Deep Creek Lodging Company pitched in at the Deep Creek Lake State Park to help them prepare the park for summer! 
We lucked out with the fantastic weather for our project, with super sunny skies and one of the warmest spring days so far, peaking above 70 degrees. Deep Creek Lake State Park head of maintenance Ken Dzaack gave us the run-through for our project, which was re-landscaping two park bathroom units that line the path from the boat launch to the state park. We split up into two groups and went to work!
After removing the old top soil and weed fabric, we measured and laid the new weed fabric and covered the areas with chipped limestone. It took a little elbow grease and teamwork, but with our awesome group, it was a pretty smooth process. To say thank you to our hardworking volunteers, we treated our group to lunch at the Greene Turtle afterwards.
As you can see from the pictures, it was a really fun project for everyone involved. It was a morning filled with lots of smiles, lots of laughs, and that wonderful feeling of camaraderie. It’s so heartwarming to us that we had this many people take time out of their busy schedules to help one of our favorite local places. Volunteering and giving back to our community is so important to us as a company, and clearly it’s reflected in our incredible team. We hope everyone enjoys the park this year!
