Each year, the Deep Creek Lake Lion’s Club hosts dozens of blind and visually impaired skiers for their annual Blind Skier Program. The program offers two days of skiing each week for three weeks. The blind skiers are paired with 1-2 ski guides who help them safely get down the mountain and enjoy the true feeling of skiing! Other guides ski and snowboard with the groups to help make sure all travels are safe.
This is a truly wonderful program! The volunteers and Lion’s club members who donate their time and talent are a crucial part of this program. We’re so thankful to have Wisp Resort right at our front door, offering a downhill skiing winter wonderland for Garrett County and Deep Creek Lake visitors. The ability to share skiing with the blind and visually impaired is so special!
This year, Railey Realty agent Nick Fratz-Orr was on scene to grab photos & video, and agents Kellyann Green and Julie Mead both had children participating as guides. Housing for the skiers was generously donated by homeowners at Railey Vacations.
