Summer is flying by! We’ve had stellar summer weather so far this season, with warm temps and tons of sunshine. The water temp in the lake is 70+ degrees which makes it enjoyable even first thing in the morning! Maryland remains in Phase II, which permits 50% indoor dining, outdoor dining with some restrictions, all outdoor activities, and some indoor activities with restrictions. We suggest you enjoy this beautiful weather, though, and take advantage of all the amazing outdoor activities in the Deep Creek Lake area. Check out some of our favorite things to do this month!
Kayaking Tour at Savage River Reservoir
One of Garrett County’s hidden gems, the Savage River Reservoir is the perfect place to enjoy peace and quiet! All Earth Eco Tour hosts tours of this beautiful area, providing all the equipment you’ll need. As no gas-powered boats are allowed on the reservoir, it’s a nice, calm environment for some quiet paddling. The staff at Railey Realty took the tour recently and had an absolute blast! The reservoir is very close to the Savage River State Forest, Big Run State Park, and New Germany State Park - so you're just a short drive to more advernture before or after your paddling trip!
Wisp Resort Outdoor Adventures
Wisp Resort offers so much more than skiing in the winter! Their summer activities are fun for all ages. Test your skills on their towering ropes course, where you navigate a giant rope spiderweb, make your way through the giant swings, and then zip-line back to the starting platform! The children’s version of the ropes course, The Chipmunk Challenge, is perfect for children ages 4+ and is guided by a knowledgeable instructor. Fly down the mountain on the adrenaline pumping Mountain Coaster or enjoy a relaxing game of disc golf. End your afternoon with a scenic chairlift ride to the top of the mountain!
Enjoy the Lake Life
There’s no better time to enjoy Deep Creek Lake than August! Now that the water is warm, early mornings on (and in!) the water are more enjoyable. There’s less traffic first thing in the morning – take advantage of the nice, glassy water! Mornings are also ideal for waterskiing and wake-surfing. Time spent at the lake is time well spent, no matter what time of day or what activity! Enjoy summer while it’s here!
95th Anniversary of Deep Creek Lake Festivities
Previously scheduled for the actual anniversary in June, the festivities are now happening August 14-16 all around the lake area! Enjoy discounts and specials at local restaurants, shops, and more.
