It's no secret that this year has been tough for everybody. And while every year the Railey family gives back, this year it felt more important than ever. Between cancelled events and fundraisers, limited family and social gatherings, and the 'new normal' of our lifestyles - there's need for extra holiday cheer this year.
One of the cancelled annual events this year was The Festival of Trees. Held the weekend after Thanksgiving, The Festival of Trees features donated decorations, from table top displays to wreaths to full-size trees. The decorations and trees are judged and then auctioned off later to help raise money for The Dove Center. In addition to the funds raised by the auction, festival-goers purchase tickets to enter and browse. Vendors also set up shop and allow for awesome, local Christmas shopping. The Festival of Trees is one of our favorite events every year, and we were as disappointed as everyone to have missed it this year. To help offset the loss of funds from this event and to help them achieve their goals, Railey Realty donated $5,000 to The Dove Center. The Dove Center is currently in the process of completing their secondary housing units, which will give domestic violence victims a safe and clean place to stay to help them leave their violent living situation. Many members of our Railey family are supporters and champions of The Dove Center, including two board members, Nancy Jo Fratz and Kristin Skeweris.
Another way Railey Realty and the Railey family helped to give back this year was through gift and food donations to local families in need. Service Coordination, Inc., is a Maryland-based organization that helps support families who have one or more disabled persons in their households. Their local Garrett County office helps serve those families in our community. Railey Realty and Railey Vacations have helped provide food and gifts for some of these families for the last several years. For Thanksgiving, the agents, staff, and partners of Railey Realty and Railey Vacations donated food for complete Thanksgiving meals - turkeys, stuffing, and all! For Christmas, in addition to a complete holiday meal, they also donated nearly 60 gifts to help make this holiday special for these families. We're always so humbled to see the generosity of our Railey family!
