Drop Anchor in a Cove
Nothing beats spending the afternoon in a cove! Dropping your anchor in a cove allow you to turn off the boat without drifting too far. Set up your lily pad or tubes and enjoying lounging around in the water without worrying about wakes and waves from boats. One of the most popular coves is Cherry Creek, where you’ll find dozens of boats tied up every weekend through the weekend. Most coves are ‘no wake zones’ which means boats must reduce their speed. This keeps the water nice and calm and safe to swim in! The Deep Creek Dam is also a popular and fun spot to relax in the afternoon!
Sunset Boat Ride
There’s something magical about being on the water right as the sun goes down! Most boaters head in around dinner time, so the waters are much more calm towards the end of the evening. While sunset is not the right time for water activities for tubing, it’s nice to just put around the lake and explore new areas! When the sun hits the horizon, and the water starts to glow, you’ll know why we recommended a sunset cruise! Don’t forget to turn on your boat’s lights after it gets dark, though!
Tubing
It’s an all-time favorite for a reason!! Tubing is one of the quintessential lake activities that you can’t pass up. With so many varieties in tubes, and the ease of renting the perfect one, you can find the perfect vessel for your group. Tubes with upright seats are great for younger children because it doesn’t require as much strength to stay on. If you’re tubing for fun, and you know, to get the person off the tube in dramatic fashion, the classic flat-top tube is exactly what you need. Still looking for something more challenging? New inflatable discs can be used in so many ways, including tubing and even surfing! Tubing is also great for anyone’s first time lake experience. There’s no age limit!
