Garrett County Community Action and Garrett County Democratic Club have recently launched a fundraising campaign for their new ‘Garrett County Seniors on the Move.’ The campaign aims to raise at least $6,000 to provide free transportation through Garrett Transit Service (GTS) to any seniors who want to visit a Community Action Senior Center, congregate meal site, or the new Senior Health and Fitness Club at Garrett College. The Garrett County Democratic Club donated $1,000 to help get the fundraiser that much closer to their goal. The free access to transportation will allow seniors to enjoy the community events and opportunities. Garrett County Community Action has centers located throughout Garrett County in Oakland, Grantsville, Crellin, Friendsville, Kitzmiller, and Swanton. The centers provide meals, activities, and socialization. The fitness club offers exercise and recreation with activities like swimming, group fitness, and a traditional gym experience. The ‘Garrett County Seniors on the Move’ campaign will allow for seniors in the community to enjoy these opportunities without the worry of transportation costs. Tax deductible donations can be made to the initiative at www.garrettcac.org or through checks mailed to Garrett County Community Action at 104 E Center St, Oakland, MD 21550.
