The Garrett County Board of REALTORS recently held their annual installation banquet, welcoming the new board members and recognizing other REALTORS within the county for their efforts over the past year and for the future year. Of those honored, Railey Realty’s very own Larry Smith was named the 2021 REALTOR of the year.
The REALTOR of the year is chosen by the GCBR board from a list of broker nominated applicants. These REALTORS are those that not only have shown dedication to their real estate career and clients, but also to their community. Larry Smith is an integral part of many GCBR committees, including the legislative committee, that helps give Garrett County a voice with state and federal legislative officials. As a unique community, both rural and tourist oriented, it’s important that the needs of Garrett County are voiced. Larry has been voted REALTOR of the Year two times prior, in 2010 and 2019. He also has served as President in 2010 and 2014. He also earned his associate broker designation in 2017, working as the office manager for the Railey Realty mid-lake office.
In addition to his help with the local board of REALTORS, Larry also is an assistant coach for the Southern Lady Rams Soccer team, active member of the Knights of Columbus, and member at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Oakland.
Larry Smith is a native to Garrett County, and currently lives in the lake area with his wife Kim, and is a proud parent and grandfather. His family enjoys all four seasons, from skiing with the Wisp Resort Ski Patrol in the winter to wake surfing behind their boat in the summer. His family also owns and operates Glazed and Confuzed Donuts, which is open seasonally at the lake.

“I’m Larry Smith, I have been a Realtor in Garrett County for 15+ years. During this time I have held many positions within the Garrett County Board of Realtors, including serving as board president in 2010 and 2014 and chairing many committees. In 2010 I was named Garrett County Realtor of the Year. I am currently apart of the Maryland Association of Realtors' Directors at Large and sit on the MAR Legislative Committee and the Presidents' Advisory Group.
I am a lifelong resident of Garrett County, growing up on the shores of Deep Creek Lake. My family has had many successful businesses here in Garrett County since the 40’s. I have been married to Kimberly Owston-Smith for 26 years. Kim and I have three daughters, Abbigayle, Kassandra and MacKenzie. My family enjoys all seasons of Garrett County. Whether we are on the slopes or on the shores of Deep Creek Lake, family is what is most important. We are so blessed to call this our home! Over the years I have volunteered for numerous organizations, I have been a member of the Wisp Ski Patrol for 27 years. I have been a Junior Golf Coach at the Oakland Golf Club, which was a great way to spend time with my 3 daughters and other children during the summer.
I have been a soccer coach for the Mt. Top Soccer League for over 9 years until my youngest daughter advanced to high school soccer at which time I followed her and became a coach and then head coach for the Southern Lady Rams.
I am a member at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Oakland and St. Peter’s Lake Center. Garrett County has so much to offer, so let me show you and your family why our family loves Deep Creek Lake and Garrett County.”
