Wisp Resort is gearing up for the 2023/24 winter ski season! Marketing Director Lori Zaloga and Marketing Coordinator Lexi Hawkes recently presented the recent Wisp updates at a Garrett County Chamber of Commerce Marketing Roundtable event. Before we dive into winter improvements, Wisp did have a few changes made over the summer. New and open year-round (subject to weather) is an 18-hole mini golf course, located at the mountain park. This adds a fun new family-friendly activity to the resort for all seasons. At Deep Creek Lake State Park, Wisp Resort rents kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards for the lake – new this year were the addition of two six-person stand-up paddleboards! Other summer improvements include new cars for the mountain coaster, which better control speed and braking.
Concerning the winter season, Wisp has been busy during the ‘off season’ making much needed repairs and upgrades to their snow-making equipment. There have been 22 new snow guns added to the front side of the mountain: 3 at the base of Chairs 2&3, 3 at the bottom of Possum, and 16 on Face. These permanent snow-guns and sticks will allow the portable guns previously utilized in these areas to be placed elsewhere on the mountain. Improvements to lighting have been made across the mountain, including upgrading lights to LED, repairing lights on Wisp Trail and Down Under, and adding Bright-Snow lights to Face and Squirrel Cage. Repairs to pipes have been made throughout the summer, and all of the new guns are being tested now prior to the start of the season. Wisp also upgraded their skis, snowboards, and poles available in their rental shop.
Future upgrades to snowmaking equipment on Main Street will be a priority, as those snow-sticks require different temperature and wet bulb increments than most of the newer snow guns on the mountain. Wisp is also making a long-term plan for the maintenance of their two golf courses, Lodestone and Fantasy Valley, to make sure they’re maintained at a higher standard.
