March is here! As the transition month from winter to spring, we’re gearing up to say goodbye to the snow and hello to the sunshine. Don't count winter out yet! Wisp Resort will try to stay open through as much March as possible, blowing snow where needed and maintained their front-side slopes and snow tubing. We broke down some of our favorite things to do this month to help you make the most of March!

Hit the Slopes – One Last Time – Wisp Resort has been busy maintaining their slopes to keep them in prime spring skiing condition. With the return of cool temperatures and natural snow, conditions are fantastic and they've been able to blow more snow around the resort. They have not yet announced a tentative closing date, so get out there and get a few more runs in before it’s too late!! The tubing park has also been well maintained and the conditions have been awesome! Spring is an awesome time to improve your skiing skills or learn as a beginner. The snow is generally soft, making it easier to carve, and more consistent in terms of texture. Snow tubing is also great during warmer weather because you're able to link more than one tube together and slide down the mountain with your friends.
NEW - Retro Prom - New this year is 'Retro Prom' - a fun themed dinner and event that supports the new Garrett County Board of REALTORS Homeownership Assistance Fund. This fund will allocate downpayment and closing cost assistance to first time homebuyers that can be combined with other funding. The night includes upscale catering from Dutch's at Silver Tree, Silent Auction, Royalty Court, and dancing! Wear your best retro prom getup and join us for this fun new area event!
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day – Many local nightlife spots will be offering live music and fun events, including The Honi-Honi, Black Bear Tavern, and Moonshadow! In Oakland, check out CaddyShack Bar & Grill or the Green Room Lounge! Make sure you follow all of your favorite spots on Facebook to stay up to date with their events and specials.
SPECIAL Trivia Madness - To celebrate the 250th Anniversary of America and Garrett County, Ace's Run is hosting a special trivia series every Tuesday through March and April. Topics include multiple Deep Creek Lake nights, 90s Country, Cocktail Knowledge, Finish the Lyrics, and more! Check out their full event calendar here.
Get Your Game On – The spring season, especially March, can be a difficult time to plan events outside once the ski slopes have closed and the weather isn’t…great. Luckily, Deep Creek has plenty of awesome trivia and game nights on various days of the week to help make staying indoors a little more enjoyable. Mountain State Brewing Co. offers bingo on Sunday afternoons and trivia on Thursdays! You can also check out trivia at Green Room Lounge in Oakland! Another neat local option is through Garrett Gamers, who host a weekly game night every Friday at different locations throughout the county.
While we’re always happy to see snow in the forecast, we’re also itching for that warm spring weather, too. Luckily, March usually brings both. There’s a lot to do this month to help you shake off some of that cabin fever – get out and enjoy it!
